Nick Drake

So I really do like this guy. The only thing that is keeping me from listening to it more is the fact that I feel like it is linked to Zach Braff (and i can't stand Zach Braff) because he had Nick Drake's song "One Of These Things First" in the soundtrack of Garden State. A stupid reason yes but the Garden State soundtrack is probably the best soundtrack ever. Period. Every song on that stinking soundtrack is amazing. Anyways... every time I hear Nick Drake all i can think about is how much i can't stand Zach Braff and it makes it really hard for me to enjoy his music. There are actually a lot of interesting things about Nick Drake that i don't think a whole lot of the world really knows about him simply because i feel like his music is just now (for the past 5 years or so) starting to catch people's attention. He is now said to be the most influential English singer-songwriter of the last 50 years but i feel like the only recognition he has gotten in the past 5 years is being in a Zach Braff movie and on an AT&T commercial. Well like most good musicians of the 60's-70's he overdosed on drugs, antidepressants to be exact. Unfortunately he was super depressed all the time and hated his life etc. etc. etc. etc. but i'm sure it helped him write some damn good music and died when he was only 26. Ok enough with all the ray of sunshine talk lets talk about his music. His music is kinda hard to describe to me. It feels very lazy to me and a lot of the songs don't really make a whole lot of sense but that's probably because the guy was on drugs most of the time. Basically his vocal style goes amazingly well with the style of guitar playing that he has. All of his songs are pretty laid back and relaxing so i'm sure you have to be in the mood for him but when you are it pays off. One of those artists that when you listen to it while driving down the right road at the right time in the middle of the night you feel like you are in your own world and it will last forever.
